Professor Oded Stark granted the Doctor Honoris Causa degree
of the University of Warsaw

On March 21st 2013 in the Chamber of the Senate of UW in Kazimierzowski Palace was held the official ceremony of grating the Doctor Honoris Causa degree to Professor Oded Stark, outstanding economist, world-renowned specialist in population economics, development economics, employment, and migration.

On 12th December 2012, acting upon the motion of the Council of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, the Senate of the University of Warsaw granted the Doctor Honoris Causa degree to the scholar. The honorary doctorate is promoted by Professor Tomasz Żylicz, and was reviewed by Professor Stefan Forlicz from the Wrocław School of Banking, Professor Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski from the University of Łódź and Professor Andrzej Malawski from the Krakow University of Economics.

Professor Oded Stark is a researcher at the Chair for Population Economics and Demography of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warsaw.

The scholar holds a professorship in economy at the Universities of Klagenfurt and Vienna, he lectures at the Centre for Development Research, University of Bonn, at the University of Tuebingen, and at the Warsaw School of Economics. Previously, he was the Director of the Migration and Development Program at Harvard University, and held the Chair in Development Economics at the University of Oslo.

Professor Stark worked as a consultant and expert in renowned institutions, including the World Bank, the International Labour Organization, the United Nations Organization and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C.

His scientific interests cover applied microeconomic theory, development economics, population economics, migration, labour, evolutionary economics, urban and regional economics, as well as the theory of business enterprises. Professor Stark is the author of six scientific books, over one hundred and fifty of articles in scientific journals, and of numerous chapters in collective works. His most well-known publications include the books "The Migration of Labor" and "Altruism and Beyond, An Economic Analysis of Transfers and Exchanges within Families and Groups".

Professor Stark took fourth place in the ranking of the most outstanding economists of the German-speaking world, published by the economics magazine "Handelsblatt." In the past three years, he has been ranked by RePEc-IDEAS as Poland’s number one Economics Professor. The scholar was also granted the Humboldt Research Award for outstanding economics merits.
