Professor Marcin Pa造s elected the Rector of the University of Warsaw

Professor Marcin Pa造s, a chemist, now serving as Vice-Rector for Development and Financial Policy, has been elected the new UW Rector for the term of 2012-2016. In the ballot process 209 electoral votes were cast for Professor Marcin Pa造s. The Rector elect will formally take over his responsibilities from Prof. Katarzyna Cha豉si雟ka-Macukow on September 1st.



Professor Pa造s specializes in chemistry. He was awarded PhD degree at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, however, his further career was closely related to the scientific unit where he originally was exploring chemical science - the Faculty of Chemistry. His habilitation proceedings were conducted at the Faculty of Chemistry, he also worked there as a lecturer. In 2010 the Rector elect was nominated Associate Professor by the Senate of the University of Warsaw.

Parallel to his scientific research Prof. Pa造s performed other important functions at the University, combining scientific, educational and administrative responsibilities. At the Faculty of Chemistry his activities were focused on the issues related to student recruitment; he also coordinated preparation works on ERASMUS/SOCRATES contract. Apart from this, he was actively participating in the process of digitalization of the Faculty's Economic and Finance Section. In 2005 Professor Pa造s was appointed Vice-Dean for Financial Affairs at the UW Faculty of Chemistry and three years later he was offered the position of Vice-Rector for Development and Financial Policy of the University of Warsaw.

The Rector elect holds the membership of International Society of Electrochemistry, he also serves as an expert for the External Advisory Group, "FET Flagships" - an initiative of the European Commission. The scope of interest of Professor Pa造s includes: inorganic and physical chemistry, in particular, researching complex phenomena of transportation in electrochemical systems, chemical processes modelling in the bulk of two phases and applying artificial intelligence methods in chemistry.

In his private life Professor Pa造s is keen on travelling. He is married, with one son.
