UW researcher awarded one of the highest Japanese orders
On November 20th Dr. habilitated Romuald Huszcza, a Professor of the University of Warsaw, received from the Ambassador of Japan in Poland the Order of the Rising Sun Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. By conferring the order the Government of Japan expressed their recognition to long-term activity of the scientist aimed at developing Japanese studies in Poland, as well as disseminating knowledge about Japan.
The scientific career of Professor Romuald Huszcza has been predominantly related to the University of Warsaw. Professor Huszcza graduated from Polish and Japanese Philologies at the University of Warsaw; also at our University he received doctorate and habilitation. At present he serves as the Head of the Department of General and East-Asian Linguistics at UW and as the Head of the Department of Japanology and Sinology of the Jagiellonian University.
Professor Huszcza is the author of numerous scientific publications on Japanese language. He has initiated and currently manages the project of publishing a great Polish-Japanese dictionary; he also leads translation and didactic activities thus contributing to promoting Japanese culture and developing bilateral relations between Poland and Japan.
