20th anniversary of ICM – hand in hand with scientific research
In 2013 the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling will be celebrating 20th anniversary of its foundation. The University unit, whose computing structure has been used by scientists from all over Poland since ICM was established, started celebrating the anniversary on December 17th 2012.
"From bite to petascale – ICM computers in photography 1993-2012" – exhibition
The Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling of UW offers access to machines which allow scientists to carry out research requiring large-scale computing. Super computers serve as tools offering scientists computing capacity and power incomparable to those of PCs.
ICM machines are equipped with solutions and technologies of unique character worldwide. Many of them were used during research works of pioneering and innovative character nationally. The scope of issues involving their application is very wide. Super computers allow for the analysis of constantly growing databases, as well as developing simulations of processes occurring within the systems of increasing scale and complexity – from the particles of proteins constituting the cells of our bodies to the structure of planets and stars forming galaxies in space.
The exhibition displays the photographs of computers, which have been used or are still in operation at ICM of UW. This is the opportunity to see the photographs of the machines of greatest importance and technological interest, which played a significant role in theoretical and experimental research conducted by a number of scientific centres in Poland.
The exhibition will be avaliable to January 14th 2013.
