Hans Hauben


a retired Professor of ancient history at the Humanistic Department of the Catholic University in Leuven. He graduated from this University, and afterwards worked as a lecturer of history of Ancient Greece and Rome. He is a representative of an exclusive group of European scientists, specializing both in classical philology and ancient history. He is an expert in history of navigation, Hellenic fleet and history of religion.

Professor Hauben published over one hundred studies in his native language of Dutch, as well as in English, French and German. Most of them focus on Hellenic times, the history of Christianity in Egypt, the history of Cyprus, religion and chronology.

Professor Heuben is not only a globally recognized professor, a humanist of extensive scope of interest, but also a friend of the University of Warsaw, for several decades actively promoting cooperation with our University in the scientific environment of Belgium. For many years with great involvement and dedication he has been taking care of the students of the University of Warsaw arriving in Leuven on their scholarships.
